The story is about the Kingdom of Elion, which has been invaded by the nation of Iziria. The land has fallen to hellspawn, wraiths, and dangerous monsters. You play as Captain Andar Witherell, a young member of Elion’s military forces. Your mission is to gather a team of warriors and mages to liberate the kingdom from destruction. The game takes place in the fantasy continent of Uram. The game has multiple endings based on how you complete certain missions. Developers spent seven years working on this project before release. The story is told across approximately 30 hours of gameplay. You will explore forests, caves, and buildings that have become haunted and dangerous locations.

You control a party of four active heroes who fight in turn-based battles. Initiative determines who goes first in combat. You can attack enemies from close range or distance, heal allies, apply buffs, or inflict status effects like poison, bleeding, and curses on enemies. Position matters in combat because back and side attacks give bonuses, but moving around enemies might trigger opportunity attacks.

The terrain and environment play important roles in battles. You can use traps, obstacles, and high ground to gain advantages. Equipment and vitality deteriorate over time, so you must manage resources carefully. You can rest at bonfires to restore resources and prepare for upcoming fights. Between battles, you manage your outpost called the Burrow. You can upgrade facilities by researching improvements and assigning recruits to speed up construction.

You recruit from over 50 companions and choose from nine character classes. While you can only take four heroes into missions, you can send other recruits on autonomous missions where they earn experience and bring back loot without your direct control. If recruits get injured, they need to rest at the outpost. Class abilities are important because certain characters can access previously blocked areas. Thieves disarm traps, lancers remove debris, and kingsmen repair broken gates. This means having the right character can unlock new locations and treasures. The game has 64 Steam achievements available and supports Steam Cloud saves. It is playable on Steam Deck, but it works better with keyboard and mouse controls.
