Fear & Hunger is a survival horror dungeon crawler RPG developed by Finnish indie developer Miro Haverinen and published under the label Happy Paintings. The game was released on December 11, 2018, for Windows PC on Steam. It is a single-player game built with the RPG Maker MV engine. The game is made exclusively for mature audiences and contains graphic violence, gore, sexual violence, drug use, and other very dark themes.

Fear & Hunger Story
The story is set inside a grim medieval fortress known as the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger, located near the ruined city of Ma’habre. Four unfortunate adventurers find themselves trapped inside this ancient fortress, which is crawling with monsters, demons, and dangerous humans. The fortress is an ancient meeting point for multiple planes of existence. Both old and new gods are in conflict inside its depths, and the player must decide where they stand in this struggle for power. One of the four characters is a knight named Le’garde, who went missing inside the dungeon. The other three — Cahara, a mercenary; D’arce, a former soldier; and Ragnvaldr, a warrior with his own reasons for entering — come to the dungeon and each has a personal reason for being there. The player picks one of these four characters at the start and tries to survive long enough to learn the truth behind the fortress.
Fear & Hunger Gameplay
The game is a dungeon crawler played from a top-down view. Players explore the floors of the fortress, collect items, and fight enemies in turn-based combat. The combat system lets the player target specific body parts of an enemy — arms, legs, and head — to disable their attacks or weaken them strategically. Enemies can do the same to the player’s character, cutting off limbs and causing permanent injury. Many enemies have a one-hit kill attack, so running away from a fight is often the better option. Outside of combat, players must manage hunger and other survival needs.
The game has a coin-toss mechanic where certain actions succeed or fail based on random chance. Loot, enemy placement, and parts of the dungeon layout are randomized at the start of each run. Players can learn two types of magic — blood magic and love magic — and can also pray to gods, set traps, recruit party members, and fuse characters together in specific situations.

The game offers 4 playable character classes, with several additional characters available to recruit as party members inside the dungeon. The art style combines pixel art with digital painting. The game includes an original ambient music score. Fear & Hunger is available in English only on Steam.
