The game uses turn-based tactical combat where you control military units on a battlefield. Every unit has armor on its front, sides, back, and top, so positioning is important. You need to think about where your units face because attacks from the side or rear cause more damage. Cover works based on direction, too – walls and fences protect your soldiers only from certain angles.
The terrain you fight on is important. Different ground types give bonuses or penalties and change what you can see. When vehicles get destroyed, they stay on the map and become obstacles that block movement and provide protection. Crews operate all units, and if crew members are killed, your unit becomes weaker. Losing a gunner means fewer attacks, while losing a driver reduces how far the unit can move.

There are three campaigns in the game, one for each faction. Every campaign has nine missions that tell different stories from the Normandy invasion. Between missions, you can upgrade your units and give them better equipment. Units gain experience and become stronger as they survive more battles.
