Remnant II: Ultimate Edition is a third-person shooter action role-playing video game developed by Gunfire Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. The game was released on July 25, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players who purchased the Ultimate Edition received early access starting July 21, 2023. This edition includes the base game, three DLC packs, a survival pack, and bonus armor sets from the first game. Remnant II is the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes.

Remnant II: Ultimate Edition Story
The story follows a survivor called the Traveler who is on the road with their friend Cass. Cass is sick from an infection caused by the Root, a dangerous plant-like species that spreads like a virus and destroys everything. During their travels, they get attacked by Root creatures and almost die. At the last moment, Clementine saves them and takes them to Ward 13, where survivors now live. The Traveler must travel to other dimensions using World Stones to collect Strange Objects and restore balance. The goal is to stop an evil force from destroying reality and eliminate the Root that has taken over Earth.
Remnant II: Ultimate Edition Gameplay
The game uses third-person shooter mechanics inspired by Soulslike games. You can carry two guns and one melee weapon at the same time. At the start, you choose an archetype class. The Gunslinger class focuses on using firearms, the Challenger class can release a shockwave that destroys enemies, and the Handler class has a dog companion that helps in combat. There are eleven archetypes total, and you can later combine two archetypes using the multi-class system.
Combat mixes ranged shooting with melee attacks in fast action. Enemies are smart and tough to fight. Large boss monsters have huge health bars and multiple phases during the battle. You need to coordinate with teammates in multiplayer or use good tactics when playing alone. The game has four difficulty levels you can choose from.

The game uses procedural generation, which means every playthrough is random. The order of biomes, level layouts, enemy types, boss characters, non-playable characters, storylines, and even the appearance of regions change for every player. This makes every game session unique. You can play solo or in cooperative multiplayer with up to three players total.
The Ultimate Edition comes with three DLC packs. The Awakened King was released on November 14, 2023. The Forgotten Kingdom came out on April 23, 2024. The Dark Horizon was released in September 2024. The edition also includes a Survival Pack with extra items, three armor sets from the first game, and instant access to the Gunslinger class without needing to unlock it.
