VLADiK BRUTAL is a first-person shooter game that was developed and published by BRUTAL SOFTWARE, also known as Narko Games. The game was released on August 9, 2024, for PC through Steam. This is an indie game that was created by a single developer, Vladislav Meshcheryakov, who spent five years working on this project. The game runs on a modified version of Unreal Engine 4 called “Narko Engine” and is available in multiple languages, including English, Russian, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and Spanish.

VLADiK BRUTAL Story

The game takes place in a fictional country in Eastern Europe where a dictator has ruled for many years. This ruler is very paranoid and has killed many people who opposed him through sweeps and executions. To control the citizens, the government forced everyone to have tracking chips in their necks. All people wear identical clothing with unique numbers, and everything is monitored by the government. The dictator then built a Grand Research Centre where prisoners are used for dangerous experiments to strengthen assassins. The main character, Vlad, is a prisoner who gets assigned to help scientists with experimental machinery. One day, while Vlad is operating this machinery under orders, it suddenly explodes and causes a mutating infection to spread throughout the country. After this disaster, the government blames Vlad for everything that happened. Now, Vlad must escape from both the mutated monsters and the security forces who are trying to kill him.

VLADiK BRUTAL Gameplay

The game is played from a first-person view where players control Vlad and must fight through various enemies. Combat involves shooting mutated creatures, soldiers, and large monsters. Players can use 12 types of weapons, including assault rifles like the AK, shotguns, magnums, sniper rifles, and even a crowbar, similar to famous games like Half-Life. The shooting mechanics are realistic, and the game has a very violent damage system. Players must collect medkits and food items to restore health since there is no automatic health regeneration. The game includes physics-based mechanics where players need to carry batteries to power stations or use severed arms on biometric scanners to progress. There are also many platforming sections where players must jump across gaps, and missing a jump results in instant death. However, the game allows players to change direction in mid-air while jumping, which makes these sections easier to handle. Some levels include vehicle driving sections where players can control cars. The game offers three difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, and Brutal.

The game includes various locations such as metro stations, underground maintenance areas, research facilities, and outdoor sections. At certain moments in the game, players must face large monster fights. The game has a save system where players need to manually save their progress, although there are auto-saves at certain checkpoints, usually before combat encounters. The levels are connected logically, with metros looking authentic and maintenance areas having proper details like small tunnels to crawl through, catwalks, and emergency lights. Options in the game allow players to turn off features like head bobbing, weapon sway, blur, and bloom effects for better comfort. The game is optimized well and runs smoothly on PC systems. Audio in the game is currently only available in Russian, but subtitles are provided in multiple languages. Since this game was created by one person, there may be some bugs or errors during gameplay.
