The story takes place in a kingdom ruled by the mad overlord Trebor. A powerful wizard named Werdna has stolen Trebor’s special amulet and hidden it deep inside a dangerous underground labyrinth. Players are hired by Trebor to venture into this dungeon and recover the stolen amulet. The goal is to reach the bottom level of the labyrinth where Werdna waits with the amulet. The dungeon has ten levels that get more dangerous as players go deeper. Along the way, players can find messages written on walls that give hints about the dungeon layout and dangers ahead.
