Hades II is an action role-playing video game sequel to the popular game Hades. The game was developed and published by Supergiant Games. The game was released in early access in May 2024 for PC Windows through Steam and Epic Games Store platforms. This sequel continues the story of Greek mythology in the underworld with new characters and gameplay mechanics. The game features similar combat to the original but introduces new magic abilities and weapon types for players to use.

Hades II Story

The story takes place after the events of the first Hades game in the same Greek mythology universe. Players control Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld and sister to Zagreus from the original game. The main villain is Chronos, the Titan of Time, who has returned to take revenge on all gods and mortals who fought against him in the past. Chronos has captured Melinoë’s family, including her father, Hades. Melinoë works with her mentor Hecate to defeat Chronos and rescue her imprisoned family members. The story follows Melinoë as she fights through various areas to reach and defeat the powerful Titan. The game includes dialogue and character interactions.

Hades II Gameplay

Hades II uses similar gameplay mechanics to the original game with some new additions. Players control Melinoë as she fights through rooms of enemies using weapons and abilities. The game includes a new Magick Bar system that allows Melinoë to cast powerful spells during combat. She can use various weapons called Nocturnal Arms, including sickles, daggers, and staffs, for close and ranged combat. Players collect boons from Olympic gods that provide temporary power upgrades during runs. When Melinoë dies, she returns to the Crossroads base area, where players can upgrade abilities and equipment. The game includes God Mode, which makes the character stronger after each failed run.

The game includes multiple weapon types that players can unlock and upgrade throughout their progress. Melinoë has access to magical abilities that Zagreus did not have in the original game. Players can use a cauldron system to upgrade the base area and unlock new gameplay options. The game features voice acting for all major characters and dialogue during gameplay. Players can collect resources and items to improve their character between runs. The early access version includes several areas to explore with plans for more content updates. The game supports keyboard and mouse controls as well as game controllers on PC platforms.
