The story follows Cadence, who gets dragged into a strange new world where she must engage in musical combat with monsters surging through the Rift. The NecroDancer character returns in this new adventure that takes players to unknown places. Cadence has to fight enemies using rhythm and music as her weapons. The game continues the musical theme from the original NecroDancer games but takes the story in a new direction with different locations and challenges.

Rift of the NecroDancer is a rhythm game that has the player press specific buttons in time with the music. Players face pulse-pounding Rhythm Rifts where every beat is a battle. The game includes epic battles against large enemies and fun mini-games that test your rhythm skills. The game offers four difficulty levels in each Rhythm Rift – EASY, MEDIUM, HARD, and IMPOSSIBLE. Players must time their attacks and movements perfectly with the beat of the music to defeat enemies and progress through levels. The Ultimate Pack includes the main game along with extra content like additional songs and characters. The game features a brand new soundtrack with 30+ Rhythm Rift tracks at launch by Danny Baranowsky, FamilyJules, Alex Moukala, Josie Brechner, Sam Webster, and Nick Nausbaum, with more on the way.
