Age of Mythology: Retold is a real-time strategy game with mythological themes. The game was co-developed by World’s Edge, Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, CaptureAge, and Virtuos Games, and published by Xbox Game Studios. It was released on September 4, 2024, for PC through Steam and Microsoft Store, and also for Xbox Series X and S. A PlayStation 5 version was released on March 4, 2025. This is a remaster of the original Age of Mythology from 2002, built using the BANG Engine with completely redone units and animations.

The game features a campaign with over 50 missions that follows the story of Arkantos, an Atlantean admiral, and his son Kastor. Arkantos begins his adventure in Atlantis and travels to various locations, including Troy, Egypt, Midgard, and eventually the Underworld. During his travels, he hunts for a dangerous cyclops who works with Poseidon against Atlantis. Players will meet and fight alongside Greek, Trojan, Norse, and Egyptian heroes as Arkantos passes through their territories. The game tells an epic story where gods, monsters, and humans meet and battle. Arkantos must form new alliances with heroes from various cultures to stop threats from mythological creatures and even the gods themselves. The campaign provides many hours of single-player content with missions that challenge strategic thinking.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a real-time strategy game where players build bases, gather resources, and command armies. Players choose from four pantheons: Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Atlantean. The game requires players to collect three main resources: food, wood, and gold. You build villagers to gather these resources and construct buildings. The game has four Ages that players advance through: Archaic Age, Classical Age, Heroic Age, and Mythic Age. Moving to a higher Age unlocks new units, buildings, and technologies. Players can call upon god powers to devastate enemies with lightning storms or earthquakes.

The game includes mythological units like Centaurs, Trolls, Mummies, Medusa, Pegasus, and Cerberus. Players can now cast Myth unit abilities whenever they want instead of being limited. The favor cap of 100 has been removed, with cooldowns being the main limitation. The population limit has been increased to allow more units in battles. The game supports multiplayer modes where players can compete or cooperate with friends. An Arena of the Gods mode was added on November 7, 2024, where players control the hero Kastor through 35 scenarios with special rewards.

The game includes four playable pantheons with multiple major gods to choose from in every pantheon. Players can summon legendary monsters and command them in battle. The original campaign from 2002 returns with 50 missions across Troy, Midgard, and Egypt. The game runs on modern graphics with updated visuals while keeping the classic gameplay. The game has controller support for Xbox, removing the need for a mouse and keyboard. Two expansions have been released: Immortal Pillars on March 4, 2025, which added the Chinese pantheon, and Heavenly Spear on September 30, 2025, which added the Japanese pantheon with samurai and yokai units. The Premium Edition includes extra content like the Freyr God Pack, Legacy Deity Portrait Pack, and both expansions. The game features randomly generated maps for skirmish mode. Players can compete in multiplayer or work together in cooperative modes to complete challenges.
