It was created by writer and voice actor Cyrus Nemati, who founded the Berlin-based studio in 2022. The game received positive reviews with a 95 percent approval rating from players and was nominated for a BAFTA Games Award.

Vampire Therapist Story

The game follows Sam Walls, a reformed Wild West gunslinger vampire who wants to leave behind his violent past. After spending over a century murdering and causing chaos as part of a bandit gang, Sam realizes there is more to his immortal existence than bloodshed. He escapes from the Old West and travels to Europe to meet Andromachos, also called Andy, a 3,000-year-old vampire who is a reformed warrior and assassin. Andy now runs a popular nightclub above which he practices therapy on vampires. He agrees to teach Sam how to become a therapist so Sam can help other immortal beings who are struggling with emotional problems. Throughout the game, Sam meets vampire clients from various historical periods, including ancient Greece, Renaissance Italy, Tudor England, and the Bronze Age.

Vampire Therapist is a visual novel where players guide Sam as he conducts therapy sessions with different vampire clients. The game uses real cognitive behavioral therapy techniques that were developed with the help of licensed therapists. Players must identify cognitive distortions in their clients’ thinking and select appropriate responses to help them work through their issues. The therapy sessions involve reading dialogue and choosing how to respond to the vampires’ problems. The game includes minigames like mindfulness meditation exercises and consensual neck-biting activities. The game takes approximately six to seven hours to complete and features voice acting from a notable cast, including Matthew Mercer, Cyrus Nemati, Sarah Grayson, Francesca Meaux, Kylie Clark, and Kit Chen.

The game has a unique tone that combines dark comedy with serious subject matter. It draws inspiration from shows like What We Do in the Shadows and Horrible Histories, balancing absurd vampire situations with genuine psychological concepts. The clients Sam meets have problems ranging from agoraphobia and social media addiction to narcissism and trauma from centuries of exploitation. The game explores sensitive topics, including war, abuse, religious oppression, suicidal thoughts, and addiction in a historical context. However, it handles these topics respectfully while still maintaining comedic moments. The visual presentation includes expressive character designs created by Sibylle Hell. The game is set primarily in a nightclub environment in Europe, creating an intimate space for the therapy sessions to take place.
