Smalland: Survive the Wilds is an open-world survival adventure game developed by Merge Games and published by Merge Games and Maximum Entertainment. The game was released in Early Access on March 29, 2023, for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The full version was released on February 15, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S. Players experience the game from a third-person view as tiny people called Smallfolk who must survive in a huge natural environment where regular-sized insects and animals become dangerous threats. The game supports both solo play and online cooperative multiplayer with up to 10 players.

Before the time of the giants, the Smallfolk lived freely under the Sun and Moon on the surface. Centuries have passed, and stories of the surface have been shared through generations while the Smallfolk lived underground in burrows. Now the giants are gone, and players take on the role of a Vanguard who must venture out into the wilds on an urgent mission. The sprite Queen is gravely ill, and players must explore the dangerous forest to find a cure before it is too late. Protected by the ways of the Sacred Owl, players must navigate this massive wilderness where everyday objects have become enormous obstacles and common insects are now terrifying monsters.

Players explore a huge open world from a tiny perspective where puddles become lake-sized bodies of water, trees tower like skyscrapers, and cracks in roads become cavernous passages. The game includes dense forests, hazardous swamps, and strange ruins from the time before. Players can use Antenna Vision by pressing the V key, which turns the screen colorless and highlights useful materials for collection. Resources can be harvested by pressing F and then collected from the ground.

To tame creatures, players must reduce their health to 50 percent and then use specific treats or place traps with bait. There are 38 tamable creatures, including Grasshoppers for jumping long distances, Damselflies for flying, Spiders for quick movement, Geckos, Scorpions, Ladybugs for extra storage, Jumping Spiders, Cockroaches, and Stinkbugs. Tamed creatures have traits ranging from Common to Legendary that provide benefits like increased durability or healing abilities.

Players can collect powerful armor sets that provide resistances and special abilities while customizing their appearance. Creature traits are randomly generated when taming and come in four tiers with over 15 options. Players can have multiple active tamed creatures based on a party budget system, where creatures have values depending on species, level, and traits. Four tiers of taming traps are available: Basic, Improved, Advanced, and Superior, with higher tiers offering better capture chances. When tamed creatures reach zero health, they become incapacitated instead of dying, and players can use revive incense to bring them back.
