Desktop Mate is a desktop utility software that runs in the background while you use your computer normally. Users can place virtual characters on their desktop that move around freely and interact with windows and programs. The characters can sit on top of application windows, jump between them, and play with your mouse cursor when you move it around the screen.

The software uses modern 3D technology to render the characters smoothly on your desktop. Characters appear as small animated figures that behave like virtual pets living on your computer screen. The base Desktop Mate software comes with a free character called Aiel-tan, who serves as the default mascot for the platform. The Hatsune Miku DLC allows users to have the popular virtual singer as their desktop companion.

Characters can be positioned anywhere on your screen and will interact with your desktop environment in realistic ways. They understand window boundaries and will sit or climb on actual program windows that you have open. The software includes customization options for character behavior and appearance settings.

Desktop Mate supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems and requires a GPU or integrated graphics to run properly. The software needs about 500MB of storage space on your computer. Users can run multiple characters at the same time if they purchase additional character DLC packs.
