Based in and around Ancient Iran, this game franchise, with its iconic action sequences and exotic setting, promises to blow your mind into a gazillion pieces. This game was designed and developed by Jordan Mechner in the 1980s who is also the mastermind behind the classical game Karateka (1984).

Prince of Persia (2004) falls into the action-adventure gaming genre. The game’s setting is inspired by the likes of Arabian Nights and Indian Jones movies. Set alternatively in Mediaeval and Ancient Iran, the game traces the adventures of the prince, jumping off the ledges, dodging the enemies, and completing the mission objectives. The larger aim of his missions is to defeat the evil boss Dahaka in order to save his soul from the flames of eternal damnation. An enthralling experience aided by some sleek graphics and heavy instrumental music makes up for great gameplay. The protagonist runs across various platforms, grasping the edges, swinging over the obstacles, and grappling with the opponent. Many a time, his guerrilla-style of attack does not work so the Prince effortlessly switches to his famous magical sword. The action sequences are tastefully designed. The adrenaline junkie amongst us will love the intense gritty sword fight and the slow-mo combat.

Despite being a heady mixture of high-end graphics and addictive games, the game does have a solid plot to fall back upon. The character development throughout the whole game is almost perceptible. No one is what they seem at first, they evolve into either allies or foes. The assassins lurk in the dark alleys and the power equation keeps on shifting. The storyline compliments the game and keeps the players guessing.

The technical team behind Prince of Persia has done its homework. After extensive research and hours in the animation studio, they have recreated the scenes similar to Arabian Nights and other Oriental Tales of yore. The sound adds to the excitement of the gameplay and keeps you hooked.

A slew of special moves is there to unlock by the players. These come in handy while playing the Boss.

Highly recommended for the PC gamers looking for some archaic adventures through Mediaeval settings and some trippy sword-slinging. Watch out for the dark corridors, the danger lurks there.
