Half-Life 2 is a first-person shooter game that was released in 2004. It is a science-fiction game developed and published by Valve Corporation. The game was developed with a USD 40 million budget within five years. The game was released for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Developers combine the use of puzzles, storytelling, and shooting to give plays a unique user experience.

The game continues from the same fictional City 17 from the first game. It is 20 years after the Black Mesa incident where Gordon Freeman and other scientists opened a portal to Xen, allowing aliens to invade the facility. The incident attracts attention from the Combine, a multidimensional empire. He forms an alliance with other scientists, friends, and rebels to try and stop the Combine.

Half-Life 2 has similar gameplay as the first game. The main protagonist is Gordon Freeman, and everything you are doing is from his perspective. The game comes with cutscenes that further explains the plot of the game.

Players must kill a variety of enemies in the form of hostile aliens. These aliens have to be eliminated using various methods. You have to predict their attack movements and then counter with your attack to defeat them. Players have access to weapons to help you kill enemies. You can kill enemies using other methods, like using explosives.

Game Engine:

A new game engine was developed for Half-Life 2, called the Source engine. It is a modified version of the Havok physics engine. This game engine handles the visuals, audio, and artificial intelligence of the entire game. It allows the players to interact more during single-player and online modes.

Developers of Half-Life 2 have two sequels of the game in the form of episodes. The first episode was released in 2006, and the second episode was released a year later. Both episodes are a continuation of Half-Life 2, where players continue to play as Gordon Freeman. Rumors were suggesting that the episode was in development, but it was never released. Rather, a prequel of both Half-Life and Half-Life, Half-Life: Alyx was released in 2020. It contains events that happened between the two previous games.

There are instances where game communities develop game mods to give an extra addition to the game. The Half-Life 2 community has released different mods of the game, the popular ones being Half-Life 2 Substance and SMOD. You can also create your own game mod, provided you have the skills to do so.
