Road Rash Free Download for Windows 10, 7, 8, XP

Road Rash

Road Rash is the one PC game, the mere mention of which fills every 90s kid with a sense of nostalgia. From the early days of computers joining the mainstream, this game always finds a place in the canon of PC games. Developed and released by Electronic Arts in 1991, Road Rash took the gaming industry by a storm which was in its nascent stage. The developers rolled out several sequels but the classical Road Rash appeals to our teenage memories like nothing else.

Going by the standards of today’s gaming world, the gameplay of Road Rash might seem primitive. But ask any puritan of the gaming community and you will know its significance. I do agree that the graphics do not exactly inspire awe but back in the days, it would hook us for hours.

Gameplay

It is a simple game with a few twists. A bike race, on the roads of California, with more than a dozen opponents; you can win it either by accelerating to the finish line without any accidents, before your opponents. You know the simple old-school way! Or as popularized by this very game, you can fight and grapple and kick your way to the finish. An illegal race with a free reign to violence, what more could a game junkie from the early 2000s want. In fact, the term ‘road rash’ literally translates to the severe burns and scratches caused by the drifts and falls of a bike race.

Soundtrack

Its iconic soundtrack makes one actually long for those ancient PC setups. The Road Rash PC version contains the music by Soundgarden. In the later versions of the game, they even added a personalized FM to hum along while destroying your opponents and cruising towards the finish line.

Graphics

As stated earlier, the graphics are smooth and without any glitch. A precise visual representation of the California lanes narrated in pixels acts as the background to the game. As the game progresses, the roads that are actually of two lanes get longer and longer. A first-person view of the speedometer and curving roads ahead gives the player a commanding view of the roads. Racing to the trophy is not enough, it is also imperative to dodge and duck your way to it. So you can either play defensively (which never happens) or you simply choose violence. That is about it.

Plot

Unlike the games of today, the developers did not need to spin an intricate narrative to act as the background of the game in those times. So the approach is simple. You, the Player, and 14 others, your competitors, race through the winding lanes of California and win it. There is no respawning, no checkpoints that automatically save your progress. Armed with batons and other weapons, you battle and race till death.

Mode

Like the earlier PC games, this game too has 2 playing modes to choose from: a single-player mode and a two-player mode. As obvious by the names, the former supports one player and the latter can accommodate two players to play using the same setup, which believes me, is going to be tricky.

Conclusion

With a simplistic approach and smooth graphics, the focus of this game is only on the mayhem and chaos unleashed on the streets of California. Road Rash is the ultimate fun game with an addictive style and a violent overtone. Play it for the days of yesteryears or play it as an escape from this dull mundane world. Take a break and zoom through the roads thrashing your opponents, literally and metaphorically.
